Breakdowns here cluster at the points where traffic slows, stops or has been struggling for miles. The single-carriageway pinch by the stones is the worst offender in tourist season, but the junctions either side catch plenty of stop-start casualties too. Summer and Solstice: Peak Breakdown Season

Every June the summer solstice brings thousands of people to Stonehenge and the surrounding roads seize up for miles. That is reliably our busiest spell. The same thing happens on a smaller scale through the whole summer: the visitor centre draws a steady stream of coaches, hire cars and campervans, and on school holidays and bank holiday weekends the A303 can sit bumper to bumper for hours. Slow-moving and stationary traffic is brutal on a vehicle. Older cars overheat, clutches wear out crawling forward a car-length at a time, and batteries flatten while drivers sit with headlights, wipers and air con all running. We see the same handful of faults again and again at these times, so we keep extra capacity ready when we know the busy periods are coming.

How Our Breakdown Service Works

When you call, we will ask exactly where you are on the corridor (near the stones, at Longbarrow, on the Winterbourne Stoke bypass), what you are driving and what has gone wrong. If it sounds fixable at the roadside we will try that first. A flat battery gets a jump-pack, a puncture gets your spare fitted, a misfuel or empty tank gets sorted on the spot, and many simple electrical faults can be cleared so you can carry on west. If the vehicle cannot be made safe to drive, we load it onto the flatbed and take it wherever you need: a local garage, your home, or our secure storage compound.
